This document is not intended to be a complete list of all requirements and is not a substitute for the Undergraduate Program Catalog. All students are presumed to have read the information in the Undergraduate Program Catalog, which is the final authority.

The Computer Science Program

A student in the Computer Science Undergraduate program has the choice of following one of three tracks.

A majority of the required courses are the same for both of these tracks. Please read the detailed course requirements page carefully; the differences between the tracks are noted.

We also offer a minor in Computer Science (Minor code: XCOMP10MIN) program. This is for students who are majoring in another degree and wish to get a minor in Computer Science.

The School of Computing and Information Sciences offers curricula leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. The Bachelor of Science program in Computer Science is accredited by:

Computing Resources

The John C. Comfort Laboratory (JCCL) is a learning facility for undergraduate students of the School of Computing and Information Sciences. This laboratory is equipped with 45 computers which are a mix of Pentium IV, 2ghz and Pentium IV, 3ghz class machines. These machines run either Windows XP or Linux. Additionally there are two apple iMac workstations running OS X.

This lab has been designed to give students a broad exposure to the PC computer environments with a strong emphasis on the Windows XP environment including programming using Microsoft Visual Studio .Net and Eclipse. The School also maintains an Instructional Lab which is designed to support courses which have a "lab" component. The Instructional Lab has 38 Pentium IV, 3ghz class computers and can accommodate 38 students. This lab is configured to allow students to work collaboratively on assignments when needed.

Additionally there is the IT lab which provides experimental hardware and networking systems, as well as systems for other IT program courses such as Unix Administration, Microcomputer Organization and Computer Operating Systems. This lab allows students access to equipment for the "hands on" type of lab assignments these courses require.

For more information about the JCCL and our other undergraduate computing resources and services, please visit our website at: http://www.aul.fiu.edu.
