Class Expectations

   Students from all mayors are accepted

  Class Type:
  • 3 Credits, VIP Program - B (Directed Individual Study)

  Description:
  • Students work in large projects with students from different majors working in real-world projects.

   Academic Pre-requisites: None
   Co-requisites: None
   Other Pre-requisites: Permission of the instructor



   Goals
  • Some of my goals are:
  • Provide the maximum support possible to all students, making sure that everybody achieves the best possible results, by offering:
    - Office Hours
    - FREE Walk-in Tutoring six (6) days a week (Monday thru Saturday)
    - Schedule Flexibility for FIU Athetics Students, DRC Students and Military FIU Students
    - Mentoring in and out of class about:
    - Internships, Jobs, Resumes, Interviews, Career fairs, Career help in spot buiding
    - Jobs at FIU as tutors and graders
    - Scholarships Flit-Path mentoring
    - Scholarships FIU Internal and External
    - Free Certifications training
    - Free Hands-on Hardware Traning

   Attendance
  • Attendance will be taken.
  • and will be part of your grade since most of the class is hands-on lab oriented.



   Simple Rules
  • If you have any question, please email me and/or come to my office hours, and/or ask our FREE tutors at PG6 #102.

  • Working together on programs is PERMITTED, however, each program MUST BE UNIQUE, ALL PROGRAMS THAT ARE COPIES WILL GET A GRADE OF ZERO (0)
  • Your email MUST have your name on it.
    FIU, ElHombre, TheItGuy, etc are NOT accepted.

  • On your email's subject write:
    Your class name and email's purpose: OSx pgmX comments

  • Upload your programs to canvas.fiu.edu.

  • Your programs must work as requested.

  • Pages with errors will loose points.

  • Programs turned in after the due date are NOT accepted.

  • All work to be done using material taught in our class ONLY.

  • Any modification to your grades MUST be done no later than ONE week after grades are posted on Canvas and/or Moodle.

  • if you have any issues with your grading, please circle the question(s) and return the assignment to me, within one week, so that I can re-grade itX.

  • This course is designed to prepare students with the required knowledge to design, build and install the hardware and software needs of an organization.
  • This class is divided into two general sections, Software and Hardware.

  Expected Course Outcomes
  • Teach you how to design, build and install the hardware and software needs of an organization, from the ground up. Building a basic network containing cabling, nodes, servers, printers, switches/hubs/routers, Operating Systems and other software.
  • All Hardware, Software and tools will be provided by Florida International University, free of charge to students.
  • This class (IDS3917) counts as any of the first four IT electives or credits toward the 120 credits requirements, there is no pre-requisites for this course.

  Tools Required
   Your Own Laptop Computer:
  • In your Laptop you will be installing FREE Virtual Machine Software in which you will be installing multiple FREE Operating Systems.
    Please make sure that you have at least 100 GB available/free of secondary storage space, and at least 4 gig RAM, preferable 8 gigs RAM
