- ACTFL Workshop Coming to Our Area

Sponsored by the Italian Language Foundation Developing and Assessing Your Students' Language Performance

Miami - April 21 and 22
Presented by Donna Clementi, over 30 years with Concordia Language Villages, classroom teacher and methods instructor (Workshop content is based on ACTFL's publication The Keys to Assessing Language Performance)

These ACTFL on-site workshops are provided at no cost to teachers of Italian through the generosity of the Italian Language Foundation in four regional locations (Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Miami).

Saturday, April 21, 2012 (9:00 AM - 4:00 PM)
Full-day workshop (open to all teachers of Italian)

Outline of the Workshop:

• Targeting instruction through performance assessments
• Developing and assessing each of the three modes of communication
• Designing units of instruction with a focus on students’ performance

Sunday, April 22, 2012 (9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon)
Half-day training (open to those interested in serving as Lead Teachers)

• The training will prepare a regional leadership team to continue the learning, by presenting ideas from the workshop to teachers in their local area
• Together explore ways to support other teachers through additional workshops, online discussion, and other strategies
• This training will focus on strategies to interactively present the key ideas and materials
• Participants will build deeper knowledge and background on the workshop content
• Location: Florida International University, Miami Florida

- L'Ambasciata d'Italia a Washington ha indetto un bando per l'assegnazione di 10 borse di studio del valore di 2.600 USD, a professori che si sono particolarmente distinti nella preparazione dei corsi di italiano di livello AP (o che dimostrino di voler avviare corsi di italiano a livello AP) per la partecipazione ad un corso di formazione presso la scuola estiva del Midlebury College. Sabato 25 febbraio, 2012: nuovo workshop organizzato dalla Florida
International University per gli insegnanti di Italiano della Florida (8 master points per i docenti MDCPS), FIU - Modesto Maidique Campus, Graham Center (GC) Room # 140.

L'evento sara' preceduto, la sera di venerdi 24 febbraio alle 17:30, da un cocktail presso il Tower Theater di Miami. Al cocktail parteciperanno gli insegnanti, alcuni rappresentanti di MDCPS, il Console Generale Adolfo Barattolo e la preside dell'ufficio didattico di Philadelphia, Dr. Ebranati. La serata si concludera` con la proiezione di uno dei piu` bei classici della cinematografia italiana, il film di Ettore Scola "C'eravamo tanto amati" (1974).

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) and Florida International University (FIU) will be offering an in-service on Saturday, February 24, 21012, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The title of the session is Per amore, solo per amore, and it will be held at FIU - Modesto Maidique Campus, Graham Center (GC) Room # 140.

The workshop will focus on providing teachers of Italian with tools and new activities to implement in the World Language or Foreign Language Italian class and methodologies that can be applied with students with diverse proficiency levels of Italian. Instruction will be delivered in Italian. Lunch will be provided by FIU. There are no fees associated with the in- service. It has been submitted for Master Plan Points (MPPs) and you can register through the PD portal. Please note that a film by the same title, Per amore, solo per amore, will be shown at FIU on the previous Friday evening about 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. It is not a pre-requisite for participating in the in-service.

- 4th Annual K-12 Language for Business Conference
January 14, 2012 - 8:30AM to 5:00PM at Florida International University.

This program will serve to instruct K-12 teachers and junior community college professors on the importance and necessity of incorporating aspects from six language tracks concentrating on the most relevant languages taught in the classroom today (Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Italian, Japanese and French) into standard curricula. Master Points available for K-12 Miami-Dade County teachers!
