Narrative Resources

A small collection of links to electronic narrative resources, some of which are currently defunct or inaccessible without jumping through hoops. Currently a work in progress, the goal is to have a comprehensive collection of all available electronic narrative resources. Particular thanks to Professor Mark Finlayson at FIU and Professor Timothy Tangherlini at UCLA for advice, resources, and contributing many of the current links.

MOMFER: A Search Engine of Thompson's Motif-Index of Folk Literature Folgert Karsdorp et al.'s paper describing the construction of MOMFER, a search engine for the Thompson motif index made by scraping an HTML version of the Motif-index (see above). The source code is available at GitHub.

Motif Index of Folk Literature Database University of Texas Libraries' remotely accessible database of Stith Thompson's Motif-index of folk-literature. Requires a UT EID.
Tales Online "A database of folktales, fairytales, myths of indigenous peoples, legends, sagas, and fables of world cultures in collections." Requires a subscription but offers a 15-day free trial.
Folklore and Mythology Electronic Texts Professor D. L. Ashliman's electronic collection of folklore and mythology. Arranged by motif, with links to full texts of the stories.
Multilingual Folk Tale Database A database that can be filtered by ATU classification. Includes a search function that only seems to operate on title.
Project Gutenberg-DE: Genre Märchen A German collection of fairytales ("Märchen"). Provides full transcriptions.
