As a sole Principal Investigator (PI) in the USA, I attracted external funding to support from both US Federal Agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Education, and the National Institute of Health (NIH), and industry such as Intel, MicroSoft, ST Microelectronics, among others.
