   CGS2250 or COP2210 and CGS3767 with a minimum grade of C.
  • Those who have less than a C in one of these classes will be dropped from the course during the first week of class.

  Course Description:
  • IDS 3917 Vertically Integrated Projects - B (3). Students work in large projects with students from different majors working in real-world projects with university and external mentors. Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.
  • This course is designed to prepare students with the preliminary knowledge to enter into the Penetration Testing area of Cyber Security.
  • It covers basic US Legal Regulations and Ethics, System Fundamentals, Numerical Sytems, IP Subneting, Cryptography, Footprinting, Scanning, Enumeration, System Hacking, Malware and other hardware and software knowledge that is required in Cyber Security.
  • This class is divided into two general sections, Software and Hardware.

  • This class is the first of two semester classes that will prepare the student for an IT Cyber Security Pentesting career, at the University Undergraduate Level.

  Tools Required
   Your Own Laptop Computer:
  • In your Laptop you will be installing FREE Virtual Machine Software in which you will be installing multiple FREE Operating Systems.
    Please make sure that you have at least 100 GB available/free of secondary storage space, and at least 4 gig RAM, preferable 8 gigs RAM

  • Not everything I teach in this class is in the book.


   Simple Rules
  • All programs MUST be done in the computers provided by FIU or in your own laptop and presented in class or in the lab when appropiate.

  • All programs MUST be named:
    last name + first Name initial + pgm1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.
    ex: SmithJpgm1.java  SmithJpgm1.c  SmithJpgm1.html 

  • Your email MUST have your name on it.
    FIU, ElHombre, TheItGuy, etc are NOT accepted.

  • On your email's subject write:
    Your class name and email's purpose: OS1 pgm1, WEB2 pgm4

  • Email me your source programs ONLY, attached. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE.

  • Your programs must compile using the terminal mode.

  • Programs with warnings will NOT be accepted. I will not debug your programs.

  • Do not change the names of the files I provide.

  • Programs turned in after the due date are NOT accepted.

  • Any modification to your grades MUST be done no later than ONE week after grades are posted in Moodle.

4 Programs 6 points each  =  24 points
3 Quizzes  5 points each  =  15 points
